Websites Useful for Teaching Geometry and Measurement
These resources are mostly for high school teachers but also middle school teachers can use them because mostly they are eligible to make concepts more clear. Almost all subtopics of geometry can be found at these pages.
1) Interactive Mathematics Miscellany and Puzzles :
http://www.cut-the-knot.org
In this site; you can find almost all geometry topics as well as some fun activities like mathematics puzzles and visual illusions. Many of the topics are accompanied by Java illustrations. Under topics there are descriptions, explanations and most importantly they have proves of formulas.
I liked it because I can find topics with different problems and I can examine java accompanied pictures with mouse movements.
2) A Fun Educational Website for Teachers and Kids:
http://www.apples4theteachers.com
This site has different games about geometry and measurement. Even middle school and high school teachers and students can use it.
I like this site just because I can play tangrams easily and I can try to create my own tangram. It is also really relaxing to make word search puzzle with geometry words.
3) Your Teacher :
http://www.yourteacher.com
This site is like a teacher. You can find every topic about geometry and you can listen them like you are listening it in a classroom. Every lesson includes video examples, interactive practice, a multiple-choice self test.
I found out this site while I am looking for my geometry resources paperwork and I decided to try it. It is very cheap for the first month.
4) National Library of Virtual Manipulatives :
http://nlvm.usu.edu
This site is all interactive and students can learn it by using it. Virtual manipulatives in this site are related to the NCTM Geometry Standard for grades 9-12.
I am just learning about NCTM standard of geometry and looking for examples of activities from this site makes me easier to understand it. That is why I like this site.
5) Ekol Hoca :
http://www.ekolhoca.com
This site is the one from Turkey. It is like an online school. A teacher makes it, he saves lessons to his web site himself. I wanted to share this one because I want my colleagues to see and compare some geometry curriculums and questions of another country. I like it because I can see last years geometry questions of university entrance exams and I can practice my geometry knowledge from here.
